If you’re sick with COVID-19

CDC guidance for all respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19

If you have new symptoms of fever, chills, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle aches, body aches, headache, and/or losing your sense of smell or taste, you should stay home so that you don’t spread your illness to others. These symptoms could be COVID-19, or they could be something else, like the flu or a cold. No matter what made you sick, stay home and away from others until:

  • You are fever free for a full 24 hours, without using fever reducing medications -and-

  • All of your other symptoms are improving.

If you live or work with medically sensitive people, we recommend extra steps to prevent passing COVID to others. The CDC website has recommendations for COVID-19 in healthcare facilities, as does Oregon Health Authority website. If you still have questions, you can call NCPHD at 541-506-2600

Testing for COVID-19

If you have symptoms and would like to test for COVID-19, you can get free at-home tests at:

  • North Central Public Health District - They are on a table in our lobby at 419 E. 7th St in The Dalles.

  • One Community Health - Stop by their clinic at 1040 Webber St in The Dalles to pick one up.

If you want a test from a clinic, you should try calling your regular doctor’s office first. If that won’t work for you, or you don’t have a regular doctor, you can get tested at any of these places:

Whether or not you test positive, if you are sick with symptoms like fever, cough, body aches, fatigue, chills, and headache please stay home and separate from others. If you test positive for COVID-19 and are at risk for getting very sick, you should consider starting COVID-17 treatment as soon as possible. We have information about the availability of COVID-19 treatments in Sherman and Wasco Counties here.
