North Central Public Health District Celebrates National Public Health Week
North Central Public Health District (NCPHD) is joining communities across the country to celebrate National Public Health Week (NPHW), April 6–12, 2026. This week is a time to honor the power of public health and remind us of past wins improving our lives, safeguarding our families and strengthening our communities.
This year’s theme, “Ready. Set. Action!” encourages all of us to celebrate progress and take new steps toward a healthier, more equitable future. Because good health doesn’t just happen; it grows through teamwork, compassion, and connection.
“National Public Health Week is an important week of the year for public health,” said Martha McInnes, Director at NCPHD. “It’s our chance to highlight how public health protects families, strengthens communities, and improves quality of life for everyone in our region. I also love that it’s often accompanied by good weather to remind us that getting outside is an easy first step to improving wellness.”
Throughout the week, NCPHD encourages residents to take simple steps to support their health: get active, eat healthy meals, join a community wellness program, or speak up for fair access to healthcare. Small actions today can lead to big improvements in our communities tomorrow. Follow along with our social media channels, this week and beyond, for information to get you started.
Public health thrives on partnerships and people working together for a common goal. NCPHD thanks local health workers, educators, and advocates who protect and promote the well-being of the Gorge every day. Together, we can build a stronger, healthier future for all.
NPHW began in 1955 and is led by the American Public Health Association. Learn more about National Public Health Week and this year’s events at nphw.org.
