Oregon law requires all students in public and private schools, pre-schools, Head Start and certified childcare facilities have up-to-date immunizations (or an exemption) to remain in school. The date for exclusion this year is Wednesday, February 25.

On February 25, children will not be able to attend school or childcare if they are missing immunizations. North Central Public Health District (NCPHD) encourages families to get their children’s immunizations up to date as soon as possible. To help families, NCPHD is offering extended clinic hours from 5 to 7 pm on Feb. 9, 18, and 20. All clinic services will be available. This is a great time to get your family’s school vaccines before Oregon’s Feb. 25 deadline.

NCPHD receives a large number of clients needing to be immunized the week of school exclusion. Clients are asked to call (541) 506-2600 to make an appointment, but walk-ins will be accommodated. No child will be turned away due to a parent’s inability to pay for required vaccines.

Each year NCPHD sends a letter to the parents of children who need additional immunizations, indicating what additional immunizations are needed. Letters were mailed to families on Feb. 4.

The state’s goal is to make sure children are fully protected against vaccine-preventable diseases and can go to school in a safe and healthy environment. Immunization is a safe way to help protect your family, and your community against disease.

Parents seeking immunization for their child can also contact their primary care provider, or call 211 for information about where to go in your area.

More school immunization information can be found at the Oregon Immunization Program website at healthoregon.org/imm.
